The Department of Municipal Affairs is directly under the charge of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Nagaland, who is assisted by the Hon’ble Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs. To ensure seamless coordination at the government level, the Commissioner & Secretary is at the helm, while at the Directorate level, the Joint Director serves as the Head of Department.
The department’s organizational structure comprises of two separate wings, ie, the Directorate of Municipal Affairs and the Urban Engineering Wing (UEW). The Directorate looks after all technical, administrative and governance-related functions, whereas the Urban Engineering Wing (UEW), led by the Additional Chief Engineer, Nagaland Public Works Department, is tasked with executing civil works under the jurisdiction of both the Urban Development Department and the Municipal Affairs Department.
At present, the Directorate of Municipal Affairs does not have its own cadre and the officers manning various posts within the Technical & Establishment Wing are deployed from the Urban Development Department.
